We make up 20 tonnes of activated charcoal (purchased carbon for the gold mining industry washed in nitric acid)
Dug a hole/trench. Pit ws around 2 meters.
Placed a layer 100mm thick. of clay and rock dust.
Layer of activated carbon.
Then a layer of fish carcasses. (we obtained 32 tonnes of carcasses from a fish factory included all waste). This layer was 200mm.
Another layer of carbon and expanded clay balls topped off with rock dust.
Local sand.
(Repeat!)
After one year we took the pit apart and redid same layers but the soil layer was the old “soil” taken out of the pit.
Layer of organics (leaves, manure and compost).
I like the idea of layering fish carcasses with charcoal. If you haven’t seen my terra preta video, here it is again:
