First New Weatherby Action in 50+ Years

Big news out of Weatherby with the announcement of the company’s first new centerfire rifle action in more than 50 years. The Weatherby Model 307 joins the Mark V and Vangaurd lines, bringing a two-lug, fully cylindrical action built for hunting, long-range and more.

The Model 307 features a fluted bolt with a tool-less disassembly. It comes standard with a Trigger Tech trigger and detachable magazine as well. Built as a modular platform, the design aims for the action to accommodate a wide array of stocks, trigger, rails, mounts and other aftermarket components and accessories.

“As you look back at our long history, each new rifle came with a purpose,” aid Adam Weatherby, CEO, Weatherby. “My grandfather released the Mark V in 1958 and it quickly became known as the strongest action in the world. The purpose was simple and clear. He wanted to develop an action that could house his high powered magnum cartridges with a set of unique and distinct features. As the years went by, it was evident there were many hunters and shooters who wanted to own a Weatherby but simply could not afford the Mark V. So, in 1971 the Vanguard was released with the purpose of providing the quality that people would expect of Weatherby while remaining affordable for a wide array of sportsman. 

“While these two actions have been widely accepted over the years and used with great success, the purpose in the design of the Model 307 is a new and different one for Weatherby,” Weatherby continued. “With more accessories available for a 700 platform than any other bolt action rifle in the world, the goal for our third action was to come up with a design that could accommodate the vast offerings of stocks, triggers, rails, mounts, magazines, etc… that exist in the marketplace. While keeping the importance of compatibility in mind, we also committed ourselves to keeping this ‘made in the USA’ rifle with a feature set and price that rivals anything out there all while keeping the quality our customers would expect from a Weatherby.”

Weatherby Model 307 Models

Builders Action:

Weatherby offers the Model 307 action in both short and long versions, with both standard and magnum bolt face options. The tool-less takedown bolt features an M16-style extractor. The cylindrical design accommodates Stiller/Savage scope mounts, threaded for 8-40 screws. The bolt release button, located high on the receiver, follows a Remington 700 footprint. The Builder’s Action comes finished with a Graphite Black Cerakote. MSRP: starting at $749

Range XP:

The Range XP rifle features a lightweight, vertical grip stock. It includes an adjustable cheekpiece and adjustable length of pull. Touch points come textured for a non-slip grip; meanwhile, dual front swivel studs allow for multiple accessory attachment. The Range XP comes standard with an adjustable TriggerTech trigger and a Magpul detachable magazine. The spiral fluted barrel is threaded and comes with a recoil-reducing Accubrake. Alpine MDT:

The Alpine MDT rides in an MDT lightweight HNT26 Chassis System, the company’s first purpose-built hunting rifle chassis. The stock features V-block bedding, adjustable length of pull, adjustable comb and AICS magazine compatibility. The chassis utilizes magnesium alloy, along with carbon fiber in the forend, pistol grip and buttstock. The forend features an integral ARCA rail for tripod attachment. The rifle comes standard with an adjustable TriggerTech trigger, PEAK 44 Picatinny rail, fluted barrel and Accurbrake. It also comes with a Graphite Black Cerakote finish. MSRP: starting at $2,999.
