AR-Pattern, 9mm PDW Built for the Fight

The PDW market continues to grow, despite potential legal challenges to the status of large-format pistol platforms. The new Parkwest Arms PW-P9 combines Mil-spec aluminum components with a host of high-end features aimed at performance.

Parkwest Arms, out of Sturgis, South Dakota, builds custom bolt-action rifles and accessories. Now entering the AR market, the PW-P9, at first look, brings some smart choice on components for a unique build. First, the PDW runs on Glock-pattern and universal-style magazines. It also brings versatility via a rear or side charging handle configuration. Unlike some 9mms, the PW-P9 features a hold-open bolt function on the last round of the magazine. Add in an M-LOK forend and flat-top upper, and the pistol offers tremendous functionality.

Users can choose from the Standard compact or ultra-compact RTG (Ready to Go) configurations. Variants offer 6- or 4-inch M-LOK handguards. Stabilizing braces range from an SB Tactical SBA4 or Maxim Defense CQB PDW. Barrel lengths range from 5.25 to 7.5 inches. The PW-P9 comes in multiple Cerakote finishes as well. Each pistol features a pistol buffer tube and AR-type controls.

We haven’t got the chance to put any rounds through the PW-P9 just yet. But the early look suggests a clean, well-built pistol. The Cerakote finishes really add some unique touches, and the build itself checks several boxes for what many look for in a defensive PDW. We hope to get some range time with one real soon.
