During the 2022 Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous industry event, I got to try the brand new Colt King Cobra Target 22LR. My first impression was, “WOW, this feels luxurious, and holy cow is that ten rounds!?”

After getting to shoot it for a while and hanging out with Colt’s awesome and knowledgeable team, I had nothing but positive, lasting impressions. First and foremost, the new Colt King Cobra has the best revolver trigger I have ever pressed. It is truly like a dream again and again—smooth and reliable.
Having ten rounds vs. the standard six, like all my other revolvers, is really convenient when you are having fun. Since Colt is known for being the best of the best, especially when it comes to revolvers, we can’t forget the finishing touches. Specifically, the perfectly comfortable grip to the beautifully polished stainless steel, ease of use, and customizability of the sights.
In my book, Colt has done it again and made a one-and-done .22 revolver.

As soon as I got the good news that I would be given the opportunity to borrow the Colt King Cobra Target 22LR for a review and photo op, I knew exactly who I wanted to bring in for expert input: Justine Williams.
For those of you who don’t follow competitive shooting, please allow me to introduce her. Justine is a nineteen-year-old competitive shooter from St. George, Utah, who has been sponsored by Colt for four years. She is a PCC and production grandmaster and a multiple national champion.
Justine also has a passion for firearms training. However, I am a firearm trainer for women’s concealed carry but am only an average revolver enjoyer. Combat Handguns: Tell us your greatest accomplishments in the firearm industry.
Justine Williams: “2nd Overall at the 2022 USPSA PCC Nationals.
CH: What is your long-term goal in this industry?
JW: Eventually, I would like to win Overall at PCC Nationals. Though it is a long way in the future, I will get there one day.
CH: Do you offer revolver classes in any of your training programs?
JW: I do run a basic intro pistol course where revolvers can be used.
CH: What was your first impression of the Colt King Cobra Target 22LR?
JW: It is 100% a statement piece that Colt not only continues to make beautiful pieces but continues to make history.
CH: What makes it stand out from other revolvers on the market?
JW: The trigger is absolutely outstanding. The double action is one of the smoothest out there on the market, and the single action is super crisp. Coming straight from the factory with an already great trigger is something any gun enthusiast is looking for.
CH: Who would you recommend this gun to?
JW: I honestly would recommend it to anyone who is into shooting or even looking to get someone a gift. The 22 is a great caliber to start with, no matter your age.
CH: What ammo would you run through the Colt King Cobra Target 22LR if you were shooting it in a competition?
JW: I would use the CCI 22 LR.
CH: What is your favorite Colt firearm?
JW: Definitely the Colt Anaconda 8-inch 44 magnum.
What I Loved About the Colt King Cobra 22LR
The coolest feature, hands down, has to be the ten-round capacity. Having those four extra rounds compared to the standard six-round chamber is convenient no matter the task at hand.
It’s perfect if you simply want to have a blast with a little friendly competition out in nature, are a serious competitive shooter, or use your Colt King Cobra Target 22LR for some good old-fashioned tactical pest control. More rounds are always better in my book.
Second to the round count, the next best feature is the trigger press. The smooth and reliable trigger is a testament to the superior craftsmanship of this gun. I have to agree with Justine. The trigger press is simply a dream.
The smooth and steady trigger pull feels flawless and consistent every time. This makes it the best target practice revolver I have ever had the pleasure of shooting!
If hearing the steel targets sing in the distance is a sound you enjoy the most, and you are the type of shooter that demands the best, this is the gun for you.

The Colt King Cobra Target 22LR is a truly remarkable revolver that combines luxury, durability, performance, convenience, and ease of use in a single package. I only had this beauty for ninety days. However, with the weather over 100F here in Phoenix, you bet this beauty beat the heat with us regularly.
My husband, friends, and I put over two thousand rounds through the revolver with ease and no complications. We all enjoyed its simplicity and performance above all. Its comfortable grip and beautifully polished stainless-steel construction make it a pleasure to handle.

The Skinny on the King Cobra Target 22LR
The original Colt King Cobra made its debut in 2017. But in 2022, Colt re-entered the category they once dominated with snake number two—this King Cobra Target 22LR.
Sporting a heavy-duty frame, 4.25-inch barrel chambered in .22 LR, and brushed stainless steel construction, the King Cobra secures a new place in the legendary heritage.
