FN recently announced the FN 509 MRD-LE gained acceptance by another law enforcement agency. Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, of Vero Beach, Florida, selected the striker-fired pistol for duty. The MRD-LE meets the demands of duty use and the professional user. The pistol underwent a full vetting process, including rigorous endurance testing to function with 9mm+P duty-style ammunition. It comes with a 4-inch slide, housing a cold hammer-forged barrel. The pistol ships with the company’s optics-mounting system and adjustable three-dot night sights.

FN America announced some huge news today. The legendary LAPD recently selected the FN 509 MRD-LE as its new duty pistol. Now thousands of officers will carry FN 9mm striker-fired pistol after rigorous testing and evaluation.

“The Los Angeles Police Department is one of the largest and most elite law enforcement agencies in the country, with roughly 10,000 uniformed officers, and we are proud that they have chosen the FN 509 MRD-LE as their next duty pistol,” said Mark Cherpes, President and CEO of FN America, LLC.
The FN platform competed against several other during the LAPD handgun trials. The test included a 20,000-round endurance qualification. The FN 509 passed with zero malfunctions, according to FN.

Built for Army Trials
The 509 MRD-LE includes an FN Low-Profile Optics-Mounting System. Adapted from the U.S. Army handgun submission, the pistol delivers precision and sighting versatility, according to FN.
