Savage Launches Several Rifles Chambered in 400 Legend

Savage Arms just announced the addition of several different rifle platforms chambered in 400 Legend. In partnership with Winchester Ammunition, the new offerings bring several rifles in the hard-hitting, yet mildly recoiling, 400 Legend, just in time for this fall’s hunting seasons.

Savage Arms Rifles in 400 Legend

Savage adds 400 Legend to three rifles initially: 110 Apex Hunter XP, 110 Hog Hunter and Axis II XP. Next, Savage will release 11 more rifles chambered in the big 400 before the end of 2023. This brings a full stable of rifles aimed squarely at states limiting rifles to straight-walled cartridges, like Ohio and Michigan.

“Savage is dedicated to chambering the best calibers for hunters and shooters,” said Beth Shimanski, Director of Marketing at Savage Arms. “The 400 Legend brings ballistic advances and advantages–and when combined with our extensive rifle lineup–the benefits only increase. Deer hunters are in for a treat this fall as we’ll have 14 options available in plenty of time for this season.”

The 400 Legend offers up to 100-percent more energy than a 12-gauge slug, with 55-percent less felt recoil, according to Savage. So the cartridge delivers energy similar to the 450 Bushmaster with a 20-percent reduction in perceived recoil. Finally, the numbers show 25-percent more energy than the 350 Legend, with more penetration and improved terminal ballistics.

As long as states continue restricting hunters to straight-walled cartridges, developments like the 400 Legend will keep driving sales. With Savage Arms adding a dozen rifles chambered in 400 Legend, providing great-shooting rifles at affordable prices, it makes it easier for hunters to add that straight-walled hunting rifle into the inventory.
