Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • ½ cup of milk
  • 1 ½ cup of water
  • 8 teaspoons of butter
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar
  • 5 cups of bread flour
  • Large mixing bowl
  • 1 tablespoon of yeast
  • Loaf pan

Instructions:

  1. Take your large mixing bowl and mix together two cups of flour with the yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. Next, combine the milk, water, and three tablespoons of butter in a saucepan.
  3. Heat everything over low heat until the liquids are warm (however, the butter does not need to be melted yet).
  4. Add the dry mixture and the wet mixture together and continue to stir over the heat.
  5. Mix in a three-fourths cup of flour for two minutes; add more flour as you see fit to thicken the mixture.
  6. Kneed in a mixture for at least five minutes.
  7. Place the mixture into the bowl.
  8. Cover the mixture and allow it to rise at normal room temperature into a dough.
  9. Sprinkle flour over a flat surface.
  10. Remove the dough from the bowl and place it on the counter.
  11. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and brush with the remaining butter.
  12. Cut the dough into two halves.
  13. Cut into four equal strips.
  14. Stack the strips and cut into four equal pieces.
  15. Place the strips on edge in a greased loaf pan, permitting the layers to form rows down the length of the pan.
  16. Allow the dough to rise until it has doubled in size.
  17. Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for a half hour.
  18. Remove from the oven.

And that’s it! If the bread sounds hollow when you tap it, it’s done. Otherwise, place it back into the oven for a few more minutes.
