The Spyderco Native Chief Lightweight Does the Heavy Work

[ad_1]

It’s no secret in the knife industry that Spyderco Knives is known for its exceptional edges and steel selection. So, it’s no surprise that the company would choose CTS BD1N for its latest knife—the Native Chief Lightweight. Along with its excellent edge properties, the Lightweight utilizes Spyderco’s FRN handle material for an incredibly light footprint in the pocket.

The Spyderco Native Chief Lightweight

Building on Spyderco’s successful Native, the Native Chief stretches out the overall length to a full 9.05 inches. However, it still maintains its slim, pocket-friendly profile, even at a 5.08-inch closed length. As a result, the EDC folder works hard but carries easy.

Nestled in the handle is the 4.02-inch blade with a 3.52-inch edge. Constructed of CTS BD1N, the blade boasts exceptional edge handling properties due to its high hardness. Likewise, the steel does not rust or stain easily but still requires attention to ensure that it doesn’t rust over time.

Featuring a drop-point blade profile, the Lightweight has a full flat grind, providing a keen edge. The blade is brought to fruition via the highly recognizable Spyderco Trademark Round Hole, which is easily accessible. Once open, the blade is held firmly in lockup with a traditional precision-machined back lock locking mechanism.

The fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) handle on the Lightweight replaces the G-10 handle scales of the original Native Chief. Likewise, the Lightweight utilizes a linerless construction combined with the FRN scales to reduce the weight by 21 percent. In addition, the injection-molded handle includes high-traction, bi-directional texturing for positive retention during use.

The Lightweight carries slightly high in the pocket with a four-position pocket clip. As a result, users can place the pocket clip for right- or left-hand and tip-up or tip-down carry.

Currently only available with black FRN scales and a steel finish, other colors, finishes, and steels will be available soon. This includes black handle with black blade, blue handle with CPM SPY27 blade, green handle Salt LC200N blade, and yellow handle Salt with CPM MagnaCut blade. Prices will vary based on model.
